Biography

The lyric coloratura-soprano Gabriela Ubavic celebrated her international breakthrough in the year 2010 in the role as Pamina in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera „The Magic Flute“ in the J.K. Tyl-Theatre in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Further international successes followed in the roles as Gilda in Giuseppe Verdi‘s opera „Rigoletto“, as Violetta Valéry in Giuseppe Verdi‘s opera „La Traviata“, as Romilda in George Frideric Handel’s opera „Serse“, as Norina in Gaetano Donizetti‘s opera „Don Pasquale” and as Adina in Gaetano Donizetti‘s opera „L’elisir d’amore“ at performances in many European countries. Ever since, the audience has been electrified by her heart-opening singing and her moving performance.

Besides her opera engagements Gabrijela Ubavic is being invited for many years for performances at international music festivals and cultural events. She has a broad classical concert repertoire and regularly holds recitals and charity concerts in various countries. Furthermore, she sings old sacred chants (in Latin, Ancient Greek and Old Slavonic). She is regularly invited to TV shows to talk about her international music career and intercultural engagements and where she shows her passion and joy for the beauty and richness of European classical music.

In 2017 Gabrijela Ubavic has been honored by the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information with the Golden Badge for her long-standing work in arts. In March 2017, she performed the Serbian national anthem at the opening ceremony of the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2017 in Belgrade, Serbia. Further, she serves as president of the noted Pozarevac Women’s Choir Barili.

Gabrijela Ubavic studied classical solo singing at the Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. As a student she attended the summer school for young artists in Bayreuth, Germany, which was sponsored by the German government. Then, she continued her vocal training in Vienna, Austria, with Professor Marija Sklad-Sauer where she also finished her post-graduate studies of stage performance (opera and musical drama) at the MDW University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the class of Professors Reto Nickler and Ivan Parik.

Gabrijela Ubavic attended master classes with Montserrat Caballé in Zaragoza, Spain (2013) and with José Cura at the Nancy Opéra Passion in Nancy, France (2007).

Gabrijela Ubavic is winner (category opera) and laureate of the prestigious Antonin Dvorak’s International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic (2013), award winner of the Prize of the National Theatre in Prague, Czech Republic (2013) and award winner of the J.K. Tyl-Theatre Prize, Pilsen, Czech Republic (2012). She was nominated for the prestigious Czech art prize “Tyla” for her performance of the role Gilda of the opera “Rigoletto” at the J.K. Tyl-Theatre in Pilsen, Czech Republic (2011).
